Resort location
Gudauri is located on the southern slopes of the Central Caucasus, in the municipality of Kazbegi. It is grown on the Jvari pass, on the slopes of Mount Tails (3006 m) and Mount Sudzeli (3270 m). Gudauri is located at an altitude of 2196 meters above sea level and is located 120 kilometers from Tbilisi, which facilitates transportation and gives you more time to relax.
History and development
The settlement in Gudauri appeared in the 1960s. A meteorological station was opened in 1887. The first well-equipped hotel was built in 1988. In the same period, the Austrian company “Doppelmayer” organized a cable car, which led to the further development of the resort. In the 90s, local people were employed in Gudauri.
They were provided with housing, and a school and a kindergarten were organized. Over time, the resort took on many social responsibilities. From 2007-2008, a new phase in the history of Gudauri begins. During this period, the state decided to take care of the infrastructure development of the resort. In May 2013, the Mountain Resorts Development Company was established by the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, which spearheaded the thorough infrastructure renewal.
Ski tracks
The first cable car in Gudauri was built in 1988. Today, there are 14 cableways in the resort, which are intended for all levels of skiers. The lower cable car is located at an altitude of 1993 meters above sea level, and the upper one is at an altitude of 3276 meters above sea level. The total distance of the ski road is 70 kilometers, which includes 20 ski tracks.
